Solar quotes can be very different from one another, making an apples-to-apples comparison difficult!
Differences can include:
With all these differences, the task of comparison seems difficult.
However, there is one easy way to compare solar quotes: price per watt.
"What is price per watt?"
It is your total system cost (before government incentives) / total system size.
For example, if you were quoted $26,500 for a 8kW (8,000 watt) system, your price per watt would be $3.31/watt.
This allows for a universal comparison and it should be the most important factor you consider.
Of course, you also need to consider the equipment warranty. Make sure your panels come with at least a 25-year warranty as this is the industry baseline standard.
Lastly, consider the installation timeline. Not that it makes a huge difference, but if it takes one company 1 week before it gets installed vs. 2 months for another, that could be worth considering.
